Shameeka Browne, a Glenside resident and member of the Abington School District Board of School Directors, will soon debut a children’s picture book titled Queen of 24®.
The book is described as “a vibrant story that celebrates the power of math, cultural pride, and self-discovery” and was inspired by Browne’s own middle school experience and lifelong love for the 24® Game.
Geared toward readers ages 8 to 13, Queen of 24® weaves together themes of confidence, identity, and academic joy. Browne, a mother of five and a passionate math educator, hopes her book will encourage children—especially those underrepresented in math spaces—to see themselves as mathematicians.
“I fell in love with math in middle school thanks to a great teacher who introduced me to the 24® Game,” said Browne. “That single spark changed everything for me—and now I want to pass that joy along to the next generation.”
The book, which is currently available for pre-order, features illustrations, real-world math connections, and a special appearance by the 24® Game. Browne received permission from the game’s inventor, Robert Sun, to feature the game in her story.
Queen of 24® is set to ship later this summer and will be available at community events, local schools, and online. Glenside residents are encouraged to support this hometown launch by pre-ordering the book and following along for updates and events at www.mathisallaroundus.org.
Browne served as Abington’s Board President from 2019 to 2024.
