Charles Ireland, a Glenside native and La Salle College High School graduate, was recently featured by La Salle University in an article titled “Christian Brother’s Scholarship recipient leads his life guided by the Lasallian spirit”.
Ireland, who will graduate from La Salle University in 2025 with a political science, philosophy, and economics degree, is also a Christian Brother’s Scholarship recipient. The scholarship’s applicants “are reviewed holistically with particular emphasis placed on cumulative grade point average, strength of curriculum and academic and extracurricular leadership as evidenced by honors and awards,” the University said.
The article also discusses Ireland’s making La Salle’s Division I team as a walk-on. As a guard, he was named to Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll his freshman and sophomore years.
In high school, Ireland was a two-time Varsity letter winner and averaged 10 points, five rebounds and three assists per game on 54% shooting his senior year. He also averaged an impressive 95% from the free throw line.
“La Salle gave me the ability to go to school through the Christian Brothers Scholarship, and I had the opportunity to play basketball,” he said of his decision to enroll.
At the University, he’s also a representative for the Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS), involved in the African American Student League (AASL), and on the Student-Athlete Advisor Committee.
