Glenside Civic Association seeking volunteers for new community mural at the Keswick Avenue SEPTA bridge, priming begins this weekend

The Glenside Civic Association and Arcadia University are looking for volunteers to help with a new community mural at the Keswick Avenue SEPTA bridge.

According to the announcement, painting will take place in October and early November. Priming will take place Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.

“We’ll need lots of helping hands for painting,” the announcement said, noting that no art or painting experience is required. “Volunteers will receive direction from the mural team, and there will be opportunities for a range of experience and comfort levels. Volunteers must be 14+ years old to participate, and will have opportunities for younger Glensider’s to participate at later stages of the project.”

A sign-up form can be found here.

Plans for the project were first announced in February. The Glenside Civic Association said it had partnered with Arcadia University, Abington Township, and Cheltenham Township to create a new mural on both sides of the bridge.

Arcadia, which masterminded the LED-laden mural at the Easton Road SEPTA bridge in 2019, applied for and received a Campus250 grant from Campus Philly to support the project. The existing murals are in need of significant restoration following last summer’s SEPTA bridge repairs, the association said.
