Glenside-bred Siani brothers’ tight-knit relationship profiled by the Altoona Mirror

Pedigreed baseball players Michael (above left), Sammy (middle) and Jake (right) Siani, each of whom were born and bred in Glenside, were featured today in an article by the Altoona Mirror titled “It runs in the family: Baseball still keeps Siani brothers close“.

The article discusses the brothers’ tight-knit relationship with each other through shared experiences, including (and especially) baseball.

“We were able to play together and work out together throughout our childhood and through middle school and high school,” Michael Siani, a current St. Louis Cardinals outfielder, told the Mirror. “Obviously, baseball is a big sport in our area and in Pennsylvania, but it was nice to have [Sammy], just to compete with every day, whether it was in the gym or in the cage or on the field, whatever we were doing.”

Sammy, a current outfielder for the Altoona Curve, was selected 37th overall in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“It was awesome,” Sammy said. “I always tell everybody I was very fortunate that [Michael] went through the whole process, college and the pro ball before I started, and I learned a lot from him.”

Michael, the eldest brother, made headlines earlier this year after hitting the first homerun of his Major League Baseball career in May. Jake, the youngest, is an outfielder/pitcher at Johns Hopkins University. He’s majoring in Economics with minors in Environmental Studies and Financial Economics.

The brothers are sons of Ralph and Kristen Siani, owners of Ralph’s Barber Shop in downtown Glenside.
