Glenside’s 120th Grand, Glorious, Patriotic Parade will feature musical, marching and entertainment groups from five states—New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and Pennsylvania—on Tuesday, July 4.
The parade, which is sponsored by the non-profit Greater Glenside Patriotic Association (GGPA), will cover a 1.5-mile route through the heart of Glenside.
Among parade features will be the championship Fralinger String Band of Philadelphia Mummers’ fame; the award-winning Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps; the Marching Cobras drill and dance team from The Bronx, NY; the large San Simon Corporales Bolivian-American contingent of dancers and musicians, arriving from Alexandria, VA; and Greater Philadelphia’s favored sports mascot, the Phillies’ Philly Phanatic, whose appearance is sponsored jointly by Daryl’s Pastries and Ralph’s Barber Shop, both of Glenside.
Beginning at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 676 parking area at Edge Hill and Jenkintown Rds., the parade then goes east on Jenkintown Rd., south along Easton Rd., and east on Waverly Rd. to its conclusion at Renninger Memorial Park at Waverly and Keswick Ave. The reviewing and public address stand for the parade will be on the front steps of St. Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, at Easton Rd. and Fairhill Ave.
As celebration sponsor, the GGPA states, “Glenside—Your July 4th Patriotic Capital of the East, and Beyond!”
