Changing of the guards: Meet Marcella and Matt, new owners of Giuliano’s Deli in Glenside

Marcella and Matt McManus have lived two blocks from the family-owned Giuliano’s Deli for more than a decade. When they got word that Rose and Tony Giuliano were retiring, their first thought was, “Let’s not let anyone ruin this good thing.” After a requisite transition period full of signatures, agreements, and mentorship, settlement for the McManus’ took place on October 18.

So far, so good.

“Things are going amazingly. Go Phils!” Matt said. “It’s been pretty bonkers in here. We had a nice long transition process, so we’ve gotten to know some of the ins and outs of running the place. We’ve been waiting for the liquor license for about six months.”

Marcella will be the new face of Giuliano’s, while Matt, a full-time software engineer, will be in charge of the evenings and beer sales. “We’ll share for the most part, but she’ll be running the ship,” Matt said.

The McManus family plans to maintain the sparkling reputation of Giuliano’s while adding some tasty new ideas of their own.

“We want to continue to honor the legacy of Rose and keep the community involved,” Matt said. “Any changes we may make will be around food. Marcella is a good cook. She’s really the best, she can do anything, so we’ll be trying out some soups and sandwiches. We’ll try to have some more events centered around beer. We want to bring folks together around food and beverages.”

“We love the community. We hope you’ll keep supporting us and telling us what you’d like to see in your corner store,” Matt said.

The previous owners, Rose and Tony Giuliano, announced their retirement on October 19, and expressed sincere gratitude for 40 years of local business.

“We are grateful for such loyal customers and all the friends we’ve made. Please continue to support Giuliano’s Deli as the new owners, Marcella and Matt, take over. They are a local family from the community who are excited to share their new ideas for the business while keeping our delicious menu items and fantastic staff,” Rose said.

“Please come in and get to know them. They are fantastic people that will fit in perfectly. This community is awesome and we have been so fortunate to be a part of it,” she said. “Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your support and love you have shown us over the years.”
