Abington residents interested in serving their community and working to insure its future have an opportunity to step up.

The Township Board of Commissioners is accepting written expressions of interest and accompanying resumes for the various Boards, Commissions and Councils (BCC) that each have a vacancy. A list and very brief description of those BCC’s is below. 

Eligible applicants must send in a letter of interest and resume to Richard J. Manfredi, Township Manager at 1176 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001 or to townshipmanager@abington.org by April 15, 2019.

  • Planning Commission:
    • Review subdivision and land development applications and advise the board on overall planning and development for the entire township.
  • Shade Tree Commission:
    • Responsible for recommending and advocating for regulations to preserve the township’s tree canopy and buffers
  • Human Relations Commission:
    • Review, investigate and attempt to mitigate complaints charging improper practice of discrimination
  • Economic Development Council:
    • Act in an advisory capacity to the Board of Commissioners on the overall economic development: planning for the Township as well as on specific projects as they arise.
  • Library Board
    • Serve as advocates and exponents of responsive and creative library service, while safeguarding and enhancing the public’s financial interest in the Library
  • Vacant Property Review Board
    • Advise the Township in matters relating to the requisition, disposition and redevelopment of properties acquired through the certification process.
