Germantown Academy girls’ volleyball takes down powerhouse Notre Dame to claim league title

The Germantown Academy girls’ volleyball team won the Inter-Ac League championship on Wednesday, November 8 in Agnes Irwin School’s gym in Rosemont.

Following a perfect 8-0 season, the Patriots took down Notre Damea program which had won the league each year for the past decadethree sets to one in the finals.

Head coach Chuck Dougherty, founder and director of TNT Volleyball Club in North Wales, only needed three seasons at the helm to help the girls win a title.

“Our slogan for the year was ‘Not done yet.'” Dougherty said. “There are girls on our team who were in kindergarten the last time Notre Dame didn’t win.”

Eli Porr, the program’s new assistant coach, ran the Men’s and Women’s NCAA volleyball programs at Arcadia University from 2015 to 2021.

“Chuck knows his strengths and his weaknesses, and he does a great job on the administrative end. He’s a numbers guy. He brought me in for more on-court training,” Porr said. “The girls worked hard this year. We didn’t give them a choice.”

In the finals, Wang recorded 27 assists and sophomore Nicole Ward had 24. Up at the net, junior Caroline Smith plied 24 kills and two blocks. Junior Hadley Evans had 13 kills and sophomore Emily Pokorny (Kaitlin’s sister) had 10.

Germantown Academy competes in the PAISAA league, which includes private schools from across the state.
