The top-seeded Fort Washington Generals took down JP Mascaro 8-0 in a Greater Norristown American Legion Baseball playoff game on Tuesday, July 9 at Upper Dublin High School, The Reporter said.
The team advances to the winners’ bracket final of the league’s double-elimination tournament, which takes place today at 5:45pm at Upper Dublin.
“Our coach would just give us various plays, bunt plays and stuff, throw to first – one of those plays was a hard-hit ground ball back to the pitcher,” pitcher Jimmy McFadden said. “So we were just taught to, if it’s hit hard enough, go to second. Although (catcher) Owen (Hastings) was screaming out ‘go to home,’ what felt naturally for me, just was like second nature.”
“I tell kids all the time we win with pitching and defense and that’s what won the game today,” Fort Washington coach Gary Bonitatibus said. “We didn’t have any errors and Jimmy pitched great, got out of some jams, like you said, those first two innings they had runners at third with less than two outs and they didn’t score and we started to peck away.
In related news, Roslyn, the second seed in the tournament, lost to third seed Mt. Carmel 7-2 on Monday.
“That was a really fun game honestly,” Roslyn shortstop Peter Crespo said. “It was back and forth all game, they came out hot with two runs we scored to get it even and after that, it was just a battle.”
