A GoFundMe has been launched on behalf of Kelly Rines, a longtime volunteer firefighter with the Fort Washington Fire Company, and his wife Dorothy, a nurse, after the couple was injured in a car accident on Friday, September 13.
According to the author of the campaign, Kelly, who is also an employee of the Upper Dublin School District, broke both of his legs and has surgery and significant rehabilitation ahead of him. Dorothy came away from the accident with a broken leg, broken vertebrae, and a fractured sternum which has caused significant cardiac issues.
They are the parents of two children, the GoFundMe said.
From the GoFundMe’s description:
We come to you today with heavy hearts and a deep sense of urgency. Dorothy and Kelly, two incredibly dedicated individuals who have selflessly given so much to so many, are facing an unimaginable challenge. On Friday, September 13, 2024, they were involved in a serious car accident that has left them both with severe injuries and a long road to recovery.
Dorothy, a veteran ER and trauma nurse, has spent years caring for others in their most vulnerable moments at Hahnemann University Hospital and currently Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital. Her compassion and expertise have been a lifeline for many. Unfortunately, the accident has left her with a broken leg that requires surgical repair, a fractured sternum causing significant cardiac issues, and broken vertebrae. The physical and emotional toll is immense, but Dorothy’s resilience and strength are equally profound.
Kelly, a hardworking member of the grounds crew for the Upper Dublin School District and a longtime volunteer firefighter with the Fort Washington Fire Company, has dedicated his life to serving our community. Kelly broke both of his legs in the accident, requiring surgery for each. His commitment to helping others is mirrored by the support he now needs as he begins his journey to recovery.
Dorothy and Kelly are proud parents to Shannon and Matthew, two wonderful children who are deeply affected by their parents’ injuries. The family finds solace and joy in camping at Boulderwoods Campground, and we hope that, with our support, they will once again be able to enjoy these precious moments together.
The road ahead will be long and challenging. Both Dorothy and Kelly will require extensive physical rehabilitation, and their ability to work and support their family is currently uncertain. We are reaching out to you, our community, their family and friends, for support to help cover medical expenses and provide income replacement during this difficult period.
Your generosity can make a significant difference in their lives. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated and will go a long way in helping Dorothy and Kelly focus on their recovery without the added burden of financial stress.
Thank you for your compassion, support, and for being a beacon of hope during this trying time. Please share this fundraiser with others who may wish to help. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and support this incredible family as they heal and rebuild.
$16,360 has been raised at the time of this writing.
