The Friends of Bishop McDevitt Facebook group recently shared a photo from 1965 which features NFL legend Jim Brown receiving an award from Father Richard Skelly.

Brown passed away from natural causes on Thursday, May 18 at his home in Los Angeles.

In February of 1965, the Fathers’ Club of Bishop McDevitt hosted a Sports Night that was attended by several big names in the sporting world. The main attraction of the night was fullback Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns who was there to receive an award from Fr. Skelly for “outstanding personal achievement and humanitarian efforts”.
