FREE Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, June 22

hazardous waste collection

This just in from state representative Steve McCarter’s office:

Hopefully there’s nothing in your house that will require outfits as shown in our feature photo. 😉

On Saturday, June 22, Montgomery County is hosting a hazardous waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Abington Junior High School, 2056 Susquehanna Road in Abington. Volunteers will help you locate the correct entrance and position your car in line. Stay in your car but unlock your trunk and any doors necessary to access the waste you want removed. Event staff will remove the waste and direct you to the exit. At a typical event, your wait time should be no longer than 30 minutes.

Only hazardous waste will be accepted. For a list of acceptable and non-acceptable materials, click this link. Note that latex paint is not hazardous waste and should not be brought to the collection events. [To dispose of latex paint, simply leave the can open until the paint dries and hardens. Then throw it into the trash.]

  • Bring all substances in original containers with labels and tightened lids. Items must be identifiable. Do not mix materials.
  • Gas containers will be returned upon request.
  • The maximum amount accepted is 25 gallons or 220 pounds. No 25- or 50-gallon drums accepted. Likewise, no commercial/industrial-generated hazardous waste accepted. Businesses and contractors will be turned away.
