Four local student-athletes competed last month at the USA Cycling Cross Country National Championships at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie.
Henry Berson, a rising senior at Cheltenham High School, represented Elkins Park-based Guys Racing Club. Cheltenham students Emmaline Schadel and June Pezalla-Granlund raced for the Huntingdon Valley-based Circle Cycle Racing.
Logan Vanderpool, a student at Abington Senior High School, also competed for Circle Cycle Racing.
“Racing the mountain bike national championship, only an hour away from my home, was an incredible opportunity. I set out with a goal of pushing myself, and I accomplished that,” Berson said.
“Nationals was my first time witnessing so many female racers gathered in one place! I could sense the passion and dedication from everyone present,” Pezalla-Grandlund said. “Seeing other women who share the same love for racing as I do was truly invigorating and affirming.”
