Elaine Lindy (above middle) of the Jenkintown-based property management company Lindy Communities has donated $2.5 million to fund the first phase of the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History’s planned multiyear overhaul, The Philadelphia Business Journal reported.
The project will include the creation of two new permanent exhibits and a 4,500 sf special exhibition gallery to debut throughout 2026. The special exhibition gallery is to debut in April with an exhibit themed for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, The Journal said.
The total cost of phase one is expected to be between $25 million and $30 million. $10.5 million has been raised so far.
Colors of Creation, the Weitzman’s first new permanent exhibit, is set to open in July. The second permanent exhibit will focus on contemporary antisemitism and will premiere sometime in 2026.
The entire overhaul of the museum will take less than five years, The Journal said.
Lindy also founded Fiesta Schoolyards, a non-profit initiative, in Jenkintown. Her brother, Alan Lindy, a former Elkins Park resident and member of Or Hadash synagogue in Fort Washington, was featured by The Jewish Exponent in February.
