The Fort Washington, Oreland, and Flourtown fire companies assisted first responders with a brush fire along the 300 block of Militia Hill Road in Fort Washington (Whitemarsh Township) on Saturday, March 1 at 5:16pm.
The fire was caused by down wires caused by high winds, officials said. The Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company reports that upon arrival it found “arcing power lines and a tree in the roadway, along with a large brush fire spreading into the Ft Washington State Park.”
Firefighters worked to suppress the fire until PECO de-energized the lines and the fire was able to be extinguished.
Also responding to the scene were the Whitemarsh Township Police Department, Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association, PennDOT, Whitemarsh Township Public Works, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and mutual aid fire companies of Spring Mill Fire Company No.1, Harmonville Fire Company No.1, Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2, Norriton Fire Engine Company, Centre Square Fire Company, and Lower Providence Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
