Former Philly Skate Zone employee admits to engaging in sexual communication with Lower Moreland teen

Joseph McGuire, 66, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to having unlawful communications of a sexual nature with a 15-year-old Lower Moreland girl between 2021 and 2022, according to The Pottstown Mercury.

McGuire’s charges include unlawful contact or communication with a minor, dissemination of explicit sexual materials to a minor and corruption of a minor. He awaits sentencing later this year to determine whether he will be classified as a sexually violent predator, The Mercury said.

He faces a possible maximum sentence of 7 to 14 years in prison.

McGuire was arrested on March 29, 2023 after a year-long investigation, according to Lower Moreland police.

The investigation began on January 2, 2022, when Lower Moreland police responded to a Levy Lane residence in Huntingdon Valley where the mother reported that an adult male had exchanged sexually explicit text messages with her daughter.

The victim’s sister said she had seen sexually explicit text messages between the juvenile and McGuire. According to The Mercury, McGuire once worked at the Philly Skate Zone, Palace Roller Rink, where he met the victim.

The girl also said that McGuire gave her marijuana and offered her alcohol.

Detectives found 641 voice calls, 1,278 text messages and three “other” types of communication between McGuire’s phone and the victim’s phone.
