8116 Church Road in Elkins Park, the former site of the Old York Road Skating Club, is on the market for an undisclosed amount as of Friday, September 6.
According to the listing, the rink is slated to be demolished and redeveloped with self-storage units and four indoor pickleball courts. The 108,116 sf property sits on 1.23 acres and has been vacant for more than seven years.
In December 2022, York Road Realty Co., L.P. proposed the site’s demolition. In November 2023, the Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners outlined the background of a settlement agreement for the property.
From the property’s description:
This is an exclusive opportunity to acquire 1.23 acres of buildable land with permitted plans for self-storage. The project intends to demolish the skating rink and associated improvements and redevelop the Property containing a self-storage use, a retail use associated with the proposed self-storage use, 4 indoor pickleball courts, associated driveways, and parking spaces. The facility will have a competitive advantage relative to other stores in its trade area, as it will be competing against vintage builds.
