Paul S. Whatley Jr., 61, formerly of the 700 block of Camberley Road in the Glenside section of Cheltenham Township, has been sentenced to 6 to 23 months in prison after being convicted of choking threatening a woman with a pocketknife on May 11, 2023 at their former residence, according to the Pottstown Mercury.
Whatley is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possessing an instrument of crime.
He must complete two years of probation consecutive to parole and is prohibited from having contact with the victim, the Mercury said. He was also ordered to stay away from the Camberley Road residence.
An investigation began after Cheltenham police responded to a report of a domestic-related incident after a relative of the victim called 911, the Mercury said. Whatley and the victim told police they had been arguing about financial matters.
The victim said Whatley “became physical with her after telling her she talked too much, grabbing her left wrist, choking her by grabbing her throat and making a slashing motion in close proximity to her throat with an open pocketknife,” according to the criminal complaint.
