A lawsuit was filed on Monday, August 25 by two women who were sexually abused as minors by Jordan Jones, a former Abington Senior High School resource officer. Abington School District and the Abington Township Police Department are named as defendants for allegedly failing to adequately intervene.

Jones, 31, of Horsham, pleaded guilty in October 2024 to having sexual contact with a student after being initially accused in September 2024. He resigned from the police department days after his arrest. In March, he was sentenced to nearly two years in prison on charges of institutional sexual assault and attempted institutional sexual assault. Jones is also named as a defendant in the suit.

The plaintiffs, both of whom were 17-year-old students when they were abused by Jones, allege that the Abington Township Police Department “failed in its most basic legal and moral duties” to act preventatively. According to the filing, Jones spent an “inordinate amount of time” with the victims and subsequently “seduced and manipulated” them. The suit also says that faculty members did not properly investigate numerous red flags, including concerns raised by school staff and students’ social media posts about his conduct.

“Jordan Jones, while acting in the course and scope of his employment as a school resource officer for Abington SD and Abington PD, seduced and manipulated (N.B. and J.R.) in a carefully orchestrated agenda in an attempt to effect and control their personal thinking and belief systems so he could engage in illicit and illegal sexual activity with them,” the lawsuit says.

“There was no supervision by Abington PD over Jones and his work in the school setting, allowing him to freely engage in his criminal conduct without fear of professional reprisal,” the suit says.

One of the plaintiffs claims that she reported the abuse to an emotional support faculty member in November 2023, who then “failed to report what [the victim] had told her to anyone.”

A spokesperson for Abington School District told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the district is aware of the lawsuit and would not comment on active litigation.

“The well-being and safety of our students and staff are of paramount importance, and as such, Abington School District continues to take this matter involving former school resource officer Jordan Jones very seriously,” the spokesperson told The Inquirer.

The plaintiffs accuse the school district and the police department of “vicarious liability, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent failure to rescue, and failure to report suspected child abuse,” The Inquirer said, noting that they are seeking more than $50,000 in damages from “a range of mental, emotional, and physical issues after the abuse”.

This is the second lawsuit filed against Abington police this month. An alum and former football coach at Abington Senior High School is suing members of the police department for allegedly striking him in the arm with a stray bullet that came from the police department’s gun range.
