Flourtown, Oreland and Wyndmoor fire companies working with Springfield Township High School to ramp up youth recruitment

Flourtown, Oreland and Wyndmoor fire companies are working with Springfield Township High School to ramp up recruitment for the area’s first responder agencies’ junior firefighting programs.

According to The Reporter, last year the school district launched its inaugural First Responders Day, and local firefighters also set up a table for the high school’s club information session.

‘We’re always looking for members,” said Oreland Fire Chief Rick Lesniak. “The goal of this is to obviously get more students more involved in volunteerism and first responders. The School District of Springfield Township is willing to offer high school credit for students who participate in the program.”

Since the initiative began, there have been three new junior firefighters at Oreland, two at Flourtown and at least one at Wyndmoor.
