FarmerJawn CEO receives prestigious James Beard Award, two new FarmerJawn stores opening

Crista Barfield, founder and CEO of FarmerJawn in Elkins Park, has been named a Leadership Honoree by the James Beard Foundation. The award is considered top-notch in the food world. 

The foundation’s Leadership Awards are reserved for individuals and organizations committed to creating “a safer, more healthful, equitable and sustainable food world.”

She will be honored at the foundation’s awards ceremony on June 10 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, according a press release.

FarmerJawn is a 128-acre farm which “enables regenerative organic food production by and for underserved communities”, their website says. The farm has two entities: FarmerJawn Farming & Retail, which is for-profit, and FarmerJawn & Friends Foundation, which is non-profit (501c3).

Barfield is opening two new stores in Westtown and Kensington, according to FarmerJawn’s website. The Westtown location may already be open for business, and the Kensington location is under construction.
