The Keep The Parade Running 5K is the primary fundraising event for the non-profit Greater Glenside Patriotic Association, which is the sole organization which organizes and 100% funds the Annual Glenside 4th of July Celebration (@glensideparade). The Glenside 4th of July Celebration has been a Southeastern Pennsylvania tradition for over 100 years, including the longest continually run Fourth of July Parade in the country! This day long event, which has become a family tradition for thousands of area locals, now costs nearly $60,000 per year, all of which is funded by donations to the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association. As you can see, without irony, we are literally running to “Keep the Parade Running” - all of the profits from the yearly 5k are used to pay for the Fourth of July Celebration. We also run in remembrance. Mike Gillespie was himself a Glenside treasure. He was for many years the co-chair of the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association, but he was also a beloved husband, father and grandfather, a decorated United State Marine Corps veteran, a retired Abington Township police officer and a popular Commissioner in Abington Township. He was widely loved and he is widely missed. So we run to remember Mike and we run to give countless families the opportunity to make their own memories on the 4th of July each year. This is now a popular and established 5K race, with a course that traverses the rolling hills of Glenside in a challenging yet rewarding approach.
