Elkins Park man arrested for possession of narcotics after routine traffic stop

Keith Anthony Hampton, 53, of Elkins Park, was arrested by Warrington police on January 25 after a routine traffic stop led officers to believe he may be in possession of illegal drugs.

According to officials, when Hampton produced his license during the stop, an officer noticed drug paraphernalia and the smell of marijuana coming from the car.

While waiting for requested backup assistance from a K9 unit, police asked Hampton to stand outside of his car, at which point they noticed Hampton toss two small baggies onto the ground.

Officers found a “white chunky powder substance” inside the baggies and another bag on Hampton’s person.

A K9 officer indicated that the substance was a narcotic. Police impounded Hampton’s car and obtained a search warrant, which revealed another baggie and drug paraphernalia.

Hampton has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
