Elkins Park home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright feat. as Mansion Global’s ‘House of the Day’, Beth Sholom Synagogue feat. by Forward

An Elkins Park home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and built by his colleague Walter J. Magill was featured in a Mansion Global House of the Day for September 15.

According to their feature, the 40-year-old property is on the market for $899,000 and includes an art gallery, a recording studio and a separate guest suite.

The expansive kitchen has hosted art auctions, private concerts and fundraising chef-table experiences, according to the listing. It features remote-controlled blinds and appliances by Thermador, Dacor and KitchenAid, and a refrigerator by Samsung that comes with interchangeable color panels and Murano glass handles.

The dining room is open to the kitchen, and glass sliders open to a raised terrace, he said. One of the sellers is a drummer, and a set of drums is visible near the living room fireplace in one of the listing photos.

The feature notes that Magill lived in the house for “many years” and mentions that the nearby Beth Sholom Synagogue (8231 Old York Road, Cheltenham Township) was designed by Wright.

In late August, the synagogue and its growing congregation were featured in a lengthy review by Forward.

An excerpt:

At a time when suburban synagogues across the country are shrinking or shuttering, this one is growing. Fast. It has added 125 new member families in the last five years. Since the pandemic, its preschool has tripled in size and now enrolls more than 90 children. Its survival feels like both legacy and defiance.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, many Jewish families — some unaffiliated, some disaffected — felt a gravitational pull. And they weren’t alone. The pandemic had already left behind what the rabbi called “an epidemic of loneliness.” Rising antisemitism added another layer of urgency. People weren’t just looking for programming; they were looking for connection. “A sense of belonging,” Glanzberg-Krainin said. “A place that feels Jewish and safe.”
