Einstein Medical Center in Elkins Park merging with Jefferson Hospital

Jefferson Hospital and the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network have finalized their deal to merge, a move three years in the making. Locally, the $599 million dollar deal adds Einstein Medical Center in Elkins Park to the the Jefferson hospital network, as well as the MossRehab in Elkins Park. Other facilities added to Jefferson from Einstein include Einstein Hospitals in both North Philadelphia and East Norriton Township, as well as outpatient centers in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties.

The move took so long because the Federal Trade Commission and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office both sued to try and block the deal due to their assertion that the merger would stifle competition and hurt patients. After some legal wrangling, objections to the merger were withdrawn earlier this year.
