Edward James Clark, a longtime fixture of Glenside’s soccer community, former owner of Glen Dobbins Ice Cream store in Glenside, and a Vietnam War veteran, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11. He was 82 years old.
A founding member of the Philadelphia Union, Clark and his family were highly involved with the St. Luke’s and Hunter Soccer Club in Glenside. He founded the Hunter Soccer “All Star” Summer Soccer Camp and served as coach and board member at Hunter Soccer for over 30 years, his obituary said.
He also served as Scoutmaster of Troop 304 (Abington Township) for over 20 years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Flannery Post, volunteer for the Bishop McDevitt Royal Masque stage crew, volunteer videographer for the Cassidy Dance Studio, St. Luke’s Spaghetti supper pasta cooker, “and an all-around community jack-of-all-trades who would answer a call anytime,” his obituary said.
A graduate of La Salle College (now University), he served with the United States Army through two tours (1964 and 1966) during the Vietnam War.
“The legendary Ed will be remembered as a supportive, loving, dedicated brother, husband, father, and grandfather, a skilled craftsman, the best molasses cookie maker, a mischievous, spirited child, an eager student, an incredibly devoted friend, and a man who was generous with his time, knowledge, and advice, always willing to help in any situation at any time. His family and friends will cherish his memory forever,” his obituary said.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the Clark family on Friday, August 16 from 9:00am until 10:45am, followed by sharing of remembrances at 11:00am at William R. May Funeral Home in Glenside. His interment will follow privately.
