Dr. Parthenia Moore of Elkins Park, longtime educator in Philadelphia, has passed away

Dr. Parthenia Moore, an Elkins Park resident, career educator and former longtime principal of Philadelphia High School for Girls, died Tuesday, June 18, of cancer, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She was 70 years old.

Dr. Moore was a 1971 graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls and served as its principal from 2010 to 2019. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Moore served as an assistant principal, principal and assistant regional superintendent in the Philadelphia School District, and as an assistant superintendent in the Harrisburg and Bristol school systems through the 1990s, her obituary said.

“I have lived in this school, come in at 7 and leave at 10 at night, these girls are everything to me,” Dr. Moore told CBS News upon her retirement in 2019.

After retirement, she served as the Vice President of Education for the Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center.

Information about funeral services was not complete, the Inquirer said.
