Dr. Jill Rappoport, Cheltenham grad, named Department Chair at University of Kentucky

Dr. Jill Rappoport, a 1996 graduate of Cheltenham High School, is now the Department Chair of the Department of English at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dr. Rappoport earned her bachelor’s degree at Wesleyan University and her Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. Her research interests include: Literary Theory, Women’s Literature and Gender Studies, and Nineteenth-Century British Literature and Culture.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Jill earned a National Caring Award for her volunteerism while she was a student at Cheltenham. She helped raise money for families devastated by the Oklahoma City bombing, established a Red Cross emergency drive at CHS, initiated the giving of Thanksgiving dinner baskets to 31 needy families, and spearheaded an annual holiday gift program at an orphanage.
