Dr. Albert Knouse, Sr., a Glenside native, Cheltenham High School graduate, U.S. Army engineer, and physician, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10. He was 94 years old.
After receiving an Engineering degree from Lehigh University, Dr. Knouse served the Army as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War where he was assigned to a SCARWAF (Special Category Army Personnel with Air Force). According to his obituary, “He made significant contributions as an engineer in the military in the European sector while also serving with NATO intelligence.”
Following his military service, Dr. Knouse earned a medical degree from Hahnemann University (Drexel) and went on to practice as a family physician in Levittown for 38 years.
“His compassion, expertise, and genuine care for his patients made a profound impact on countless lives,” his obituary said. “In his retirement, he continued to call on shut-in patients throughout central Pennsylvania.”
A military inurnment service will be held on Friday, October 18 at 1:30pm at Fort Indiantown Gap. A celebration of life service will be held on October 20 at Bent Creek Country Club, 620 Bent Creek Drive, Lititz, at 12:30pm followed by an ice cream social.
