Leidy Sheeder Bonanno, a 1999 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, was the inspiration for the Leidy Sheeder Bonanno Memorial Fund for the Reading Hospital School of Nursing.

In 2003, Leidy had just graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing when she was murdered by an ex-boyfriend. She was 21 years old.

Her parents created the scholarship 20 years ago.

Leidy’s mother, Kathleen Sheeder Bonanno, a teacher at Cheltenham High School, died in 2017 of cancer. Six months later, her husband David passed away from complications after a medical procedure, Chestnut Hill Local reported.

Kathleen’s sister, Suzanne Sheeder, is trying to raise funds for the scholarship.
