Daniel Moyer, Bishop McDevitt grad and ‘the Voice of the Lancers’, has passed away

Daniel “Dan” L. Moyer, a 1964 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, passed away on April 4 after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear palsy. He was 77 years old.

According to his obituary, Moyer grew up in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia and graduated from St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic School (1960) and LaSalle University (1972).

He worked in retail management for Sears, Homeplace, and Denny Electric, and spent years involved with athletics at Bishop McDevitt, most notably serving as an announcer and “the Voice of the Lancers” during football and basketball games.

He was also a frequent spectator for his children’s games, his obituary said.

Moyer volunteered with various organizations, including the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Francis Inn, the Common Good, GYAC, and as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Luke’s in Glenside, his obituary said.

A celebration of life will be held on April 17 at St. Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Glenside. Visitation will start at 8:30am and Mass will be held at 11:00. Interment will be private.
