Craig Metcalfe named principal at Cedarbrook Middle School

Cheltenham High School graduate (’95) Craig Metcalfe has been named principal at Cedarbrook Middle School. Metcalfe has 15 years of experience as a building administrator and teacher in the Cheltenham School District.

For the past four years, Metcalfe has served as the vice principal of Cheltenham High School. During that time, Metcalfe assisted the building principal in all domains of school leadership and was responsible for general operations and building facilities. He served as the supervisor of foreign language and science departments, as well as the freshman administrator.

“I am pleased to be working with such a talented group of staff and administrators at Cedarbrook Middle School,” said Metcalfe, a lifelong Cheltenham resident. “Our shared objective is to work hard to ensure Cedarbrook continues to shine bright and be the very best middle school it can be. I have had the honor and privilege of giving back to our amazing community which gave me so much and supported my growth as a young man and professional.”

Prior to joining the Cheltenham School District, Metcalfe was the principal at Universal Vare Charter Middle School (2015-2018) and assistant principal at Universal Institute Charter School (2013-2018).

Before becoming an administrator, Metcalfe taught math at Cheltenham High School for 11 years, during which he earned the 2011 NAACP Teacher Recognition award. He also developed after-school tutoring programs to increase student interest in higher learning. He served on numerous climate and culture and event committees to create a better learning environment.

Metcalfe earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education mathematics in 2000 from West Chester University, where he was a member of the tennis and basketball teams. He completed an M.S. in education administration at Gwynedd-Mercy College in 2005 and has completed course work in the educational administration doctoral program at Saint Joseph’s University.

Off-campus, Metcalfe is a volunteer with Founding Fatherz and is a member of the Cheltenham NAACP.

Metcalfe resides in Cheltenham with his wife Lateefah and children Craig (CHS junior) and Simone (CBK 8th grader).
