Coronavirus deaths in Montgomery County top 1,000

Deaths attributed to Coronavirus in Montgomery County now top 1,000 according to the Montgomery County COVID-19 datahub. As of December 29th, there have been a total of 1,002 deaths across the county. Since our last report on data through December 22nd, there have been five deaths reported on December 23rd, six on December 24th, 20 on December 28th, and three on December 29th.

The number of positive cases is trending down since the spike attributed to the Thanksgiving holiday. The number of cases from the most recent 14 days has decreased by 503 versus the previous 14 days. Cases from the most recent seven days have decreased by 243 versus the previous seven days.

The 14-day PCR positivity rate is 10.24% as of December 24th, down from 11.25% as of December 17th. Having this number at 5% or under is considered suppression of the virus.

In regards to hospitalizations, as of December 29th, there are 443 patients in Montgomery County hospitals due to Coronavirus. This is slightly down from the 450 patients on December 22nd, and down by more than 100 patients from the 546 patients in the county’s hospitals on December 14th. There are currently 105 patients in the ICU, with 61 of those patients requiring a ventilator.

Locally, here are the current numbers:

  • Abington is at 2,373 cases, which is 350 more than since December 15th. There have been 86 deaths, which is six more than since December 15th
  • Cheltenham is 1,576 cases, which is 139 more than since December 15th. There have been 64 deaths, which is five more than since December 15th
  • Jenkintown is at 136 cases, which is 15 more than since December 15th. There has been one death
  • Springfield is at 1,093 cases, which is 84 more than since December 15th. There have been 91 deaths
  • Rockledge is at 129 cases, which is 23 more since December 15th. There has been one death
