Commissioner shares donation options for 2 Cheltenham students who lost their mother to cancer

Cheltenham Township commissioner Emily Cheramie Walz (Ward 6) shared in a post that two local Haitian siblings, aged 11 and 18, have recently lost their mother to cancer.

Walz said a group is helping to collect gift cards to help meet the siblings’ immediate needs. The post notes that financial donations can be made through the Cheltenham School District.

A GoFundMe has been launched by the older sibling. From the campaign’s description:

I am doing everything I can to take care of my younger sister. We are now facing not only emotional pain, but also serious financial struggles. We are trying to keep up with rent, daily expenses, and my mother’s medical care—all at once.

This situation has become overwhelming. We are not prepared for the cost of treatment, medications, and basic living expenses during this difficult time.

I am asking for your help to support my mother in her final moments and to help me provide stability for my little sister. Your donation will go toward medical expenses, rent, and ensuring that we can stay safe and together during this heartbreaking time.
