Church and Greenwood Plans: Cheltenham Commissioners Send PennDOT Back to Drawing Board

Cheltenham Twp — The Cheltenham Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to send PennDOT back to the drawing board after seeing its plans for the intersection of Greenwood Avenue and Church Road.

The resolution expressed the commissioner’s concern for the potential of increased traffic, its removal of seventeen mature trees along the perimeter of Curtis Park, and its failure to address pedestrian accessibility.

While the resolution does recognize to alleviate gridlock in that area, it also considers the opposition of residents to the plan.

The resolution was passed by acclamation.

The Township will hold another technical meeting with PennDOT on June 12 at 10 AM to discuss the project further.

Wawa plans move forward

Bruce Goodman returned to Curtis Hall to help hammer out some of the finer details to a planned text amendment to the zoning code allowing his Wawa project at Easton and Waverly to move forward.

Commissioner Pransky asked pointed questions about the building’s overall height after incorporating an “architectural enhancement” (24 feet of building with nine additional feet for what most people call a sign), and the size of the canopy over the gas pumps (5,380 square feet).

The plan also calls for a fifteen foot sign at the corner to display gas prices.
