Cheltenham High School recent graduates Craig Ellison Metcalfe and Mya Whitted participated in the commencement exercises for the Class of 2023 on Friday, June 9.
Two days later, Metcalfe and Whitted were named recipients of the “Book Award” at the 21st annual Freedom Fund Banquet of the Cheltenham Area Branch of the NAACP held at Arcadia University. The award honors those who have affected positive change at Cheltenham High and the surrounding township.
Metcalfe was a member of the Black Scholars Club, the Black Student Union, the Panther basketball and tennis teams, and served as a Cultural Proficiency Student Ambassador. He will attend Hampton University in the fall and study Architectural Drafting.
Whitted split her time between Cheltenham High and the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology in Willow Grove where she studied Cosmetology and was a SkillsUSA District Competition Medalist. Mya will be studying Business at Delaware State University and hopes to someday open her own salon.
