David Weiss, a 1974 graduate of Cheltenham High School, has been the United States Attorney leading the investigation into the financial dealings of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.

Weiss has been featured by numerous national outlets within the past 24 hours, including ABC News, Newsweek, USA Today and CNN.

According to CNN’s June 20 article “Who is David Weiss, the US attorney overseeing Hunter Biden criminal probe?”, he met in April with Hunter Biden’s attorneys, who had requested a routine status update on the investigation.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department said in court filings that Biden will plead guilty to two tax misdemeanors and struck a deal with federal prosecutors regarding a felony gun charge.

In 2018, the Senate confirmed Weiss to serve as US attorney for the District of Delaware. At the time of his nomination, he was serving as the acting US attorney for the district and was one of nine candidates whom Trump said shared his “vision for ‘Making America Safe Again.’”

According to The Washington Examiner, “Hunter Biden reached a plea deal on federal charges related to tax crimes and the illegal purchase of a handgun, Weiss’s office wrote in a court filing on Tuesday.”

David C. Weiss was appointed by President Trump to serve as the United States Attorney for the District of Delaware and was sworn in on February 22, 2018.  USA Weiss previously served as the First Assistant United States Attorney (2007-2009; 2012-2018) and both the Acting and Interim United States Attorney for the District of Delaware (2009 to 2011). 

Mr. Weiss began his legal career in 1984 as a law clerk to Justice Andrew D. Christie of the Delaware Supreme Court. After completing his clerkship, Mr. Weiss served as an Assistant United States Attorney from 1986 through 1989, prosecuting a variety of federal crimes. Mr. Weiss joined Duane Morris in 1989 and became a partner at the firm in 1993. While at Duane Morris, Mr. Weiss practiced in the firm’s commercial litigation department. In 1999 Mr. Weiss joined The Siegfried Group, a financial services firm, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President.

Mr. Weiss is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and Widener University School of Law. He is a member of the Delaware and Pennsylvania bars.

At Cheltenham High, he was an excellent athlete, participating in both Varsity basketball and baseball, according to local historian Chuck Langerman.
