Cheltenham’s Officer Casciato receives Commendation for Bravery, steering wheel locks for Kia/Hyundai vehicles still available

The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced that Officer Joseph Casciato received a Commendation for Bravery from the Drexel University Police Department on the evening of Wednesday, June 26.

According to the department, Officer Casciato responded to a robbery-in-progress call at Drexel University, during which one of the armed suspects fired his weapon at police. He continued to pursue the suspects and ultimately took them into custody with the assistance of other officers.

The incident took place prior to Casciato’s employment with Cheltenham, police said.

In related news, and in light of the recent uptick in car damages and thefts, the department is reminding area residents that steering wheel locks for Kia and Hyundai vehicles are available for free pickup at the Police Administration Building located at 8230 Old York Road, Elkins Park.

The department asks that interested residents provide a valid state-issued form of identification showing Cheltenham Township residency and a valid registration to prove ownership of a Hyundai or Kia vehicle.
