Cheltenham’s Medea celebrates 20 years with new EP and music video

Cheltenham-based folk-rockers Medea celebrate 20 years with a new EP of original music and a music video for the title track “GhostBox.”

The band rehearses in Elkins Park and includes Glenside resident Rich Curtis on bass and Cheltenham High grad Irene Lambrou as lead vocalist. Tony Winkler (Willow Grove) plays guitars, James Farrell (drums) and Grammy-winner Pat Robinson (keys, acoustic guitar) round out the lineup.

Medea started in 1999 as the creative outlet for members of an Abington-based wedding band, and continued over the next twenty-odd years, with the usual hiatus here and there, three self-produced albums of original songs, radio airplay, plenty of live shows at venues dead and gone, and players coming and going. Recently, a post-pandemic-era Medea resurfaced with more to say.

The new songs are about love and loss, evil and lies, magic and mystery, rendered mostly in minor keys. In other words, the usual Medea stuff. But now, the material is filtered through older lenses and flavored by the ever-present feeling that time is growing short. The new songs are the most powerful music Medea has ever made.

“GhostBox” is now available on all streaming services. Medea plays live on November 17 at The Living Room in Ardmore. More info about Medea is at medeareturns.com.
