Cheltenham woman, home health aide convicted of stealing $113K from elderly woman sentenced 14 months – 10 years

Shabnam McAllister, 61, of the 100 block of Krewson Lane in Cheltenham Township, was sentenced to 14 months to 10 years in prison for financially exploiting an elderly Parkinson’s-afflicted Lower Gwynedd Township woman out of more than $113,000, Mainline Media News reported today.

The thefts took place between 2018 and 2021 while McAllister worked as a home health aide for the victim. Her charges include theft by deception and financial exploitation of an older adult or care dependent person.

McAllister was also ordered her to pay $113,400 in restitution to the victim, who was 82 years old when the thefts began, and received 100 hours of community service.

McAllister wrote dozens of unauthorized, extra checks to herself, as part of her salary, from the victim’s bank account, officials said. She and her staff were responsible for cooking, shopping, cleaning and paying bills for the victim.

McAllister was terminated when the victim’s family examined her financial records and found inexplicable expenses.
