Cheltenham Township receives $1M grant to replace collapsed culvert in Elkins Park

State Representative Napoleon Nelson announced on Friday that $1 million in state funding has been awarded to Cheltenham Township to support the replacement of the collapsed underground culvert on Chelten Hills Drive in Elkins Park.

“This incident has had serious repercussions, including the occurrence of a massive sinkhole in one of our neighborhoods,” Nelson wrote in a newsletter.

The funding was awarded through the state Department of Community and Economic Development, and will allow for the emergency repair and reopening of nearby roads and sidewalks, as well as protecting surrounding homes and the PECO and Enbridge high gas transmission lines from potential catastrophic damage.

In addition to replacing the culvert, this funding will allow for the emergency repair and reopening of nearby roads and sidewalks, as well as protecting surrounding homes and the PECO and Enbridge high gas transmission lines from potential catastrophic damage.
