Cheltenham Township announced today its search for the next Chief of Police has begun.
Township officials announced earlier this month that current Chief of Police John Slavin is scheduled to retire on July 31. He was sworn in as Cheltenham’s 11th Chief of Police in July 2022, after serving as Acting Chief following the retirement of John Frye in 2021. More on his career here.

The new Chief “will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective, productive working relationships with appointed and elected officials, the Township Manager and staff, neighboring police departments, government and law enforcement agencies, media, local businesses and organizations, Township residents, and the general public.”
The department has been accredited through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission since 2012.
