Cheltenham Township Lieutenant graduates from prestigious law enforcement leadership program

The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced today that Lieutenant Rich Schaffer graduated from the Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (MALEEDS) on Friday, June 12 at Princeton University.

Schaffer was sworn in as Police Lieutenant in 2024 and began his career in Cheltenham Township on January 3, 2000.

He has served in a variety of assignments during his tenure, including Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Professional Standards Unit Sergeant, Administrative Staff Services Unit Sergeant, and Detective Sergeant.

From the announcement:

MALEEDS is one of the nation’s premier and most selective law enforcement leadership programs, providing advanced executive leadership training for police chiefs and law enforcement executives. This year’s program brought together 73 law enforcement leaders from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania for an intensive experience focused on leadership development, professional growth, and networking.

The program is proudly co-sponsored by the Newark, New York, and Philadelphia Divisions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Upon successful completion of MALEEDS, graduates become members of the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA), gaining access to ongoing leadership training opportunities and an annual professional development conference.
