District Superintendent Brian Scrivens announced today that Cheltenham schools will open at normal hours on Monday.

Scriven said that the district has received phone calls asking about a delayed opening, as other schools in the greater Philly area have decided on Monday morning delays to accommodate Super Bowl viewership.

Dear Faculty, Staff and Community Members:

I hope this communication finds you doing well and excited for our Philadelphia Eagles’ appearance in this weekend’s Super Bowl LVII. 

As news has spread about several area school districts operating on a delayed opening schedule on Monday, Feb. 13 in light of the Super Bowl taking place in the evening on Sunday, a number of individuals have contacted my office to ask about whether a delayed opening is under consideration in Cheltenham. 
 
While I, like many of you, am hoping for and looking forward to an Eagles victory this weekend, I am also excited to welcome our staff and students back to school on Monday. As we are required to keep our schools open for a minimum number of days and hours per year, school closures and delayed openings are and must be reserved for emergency situations and other circumstances that prevent our schools from safely opening. Unexpected school closures and delayed openings also create childcare and other logistical issues for working families. For these reasons, all Cheltenham schools will operate on a regular schedule on Monday, Feb. 13. I hope when we return on Monday, we will all be celebrating an Eagles victory as we resume our primary mission of educating our students.
 
Likewise, in anticipation of an Eagles victory and an expected city parade one day next week, our district buildings will also remain open as scheduled for the same reasons.
