Cheltenham School District’s Superintendent of Schools announces resignation

Dr. Wagner Marseille, superintendent of schools for the Cheltenham School District, announced his resignation today in an email to the district’s families and staff. No reason was provided and he will continue in his role through June 30th. He has served in the position since 2015.

Below is the text of the announcement:

Dear Cheltenham Families and Staff,

It’s with mixed emotions I share with you I will be resigning as superintendent on Wednesday, June 30. Thank you to the Cheltenham community, staff, faculty, students, and community partners for allowing me the privilege of serving as the superintendent for a school district about which you carry a deep affinity.

Cheltenham was more than a job to me. Cheltenham is where my family called home, and where our daughter blossomed thanks to the phenomenal teachers and staff who shaped her academic and social-emotional development.

As I reflect on our journey, I’m in awe with what we accomplished to tell our story and let people know #thisischeltenham. I am proud of our collective achievements and am excited for what the future holds for Cheltenham. Though my family is transitioning, Cheltenham will never be far from our hearts. I will never forget CSD pride.

I am committed to working with the CSD Board of School Directors and my administrative team during this period to ensure a smooth transition.

Thank you for allowing me to serve.

Best,

Dr. Wagner Marseille
Superintendent of Schools

The school board followed with the below statement:

The Cheltenham School District Board of School Directors learned Thursday evening that Superintendent Dr. Wagner Marseille was resigning his position after six plus years. I appreciate Dr. Marseille’s service and wish him well in his new endeavor. He’s left an indelible impression on this district.

Moving forward in a thoughtful, yet expeditious manner, the board will identify and appoint an interim superintendent, and engage a consulting firm to assist us in our search for a permanent superintendent. Please be assured the search process will include ample opportunity for community and stakeholder input about the desired characteristics of our next superintendent. We will keep the community well informed throughout our search process.

Finally, please rest assured that the district continues to be committed to advancing the important initiatives started during Dr. Marseille’s tenure.

President, CSD Board of School Directors
