Cheltenham School District names an interim superintendent

Last week the Cheltenham School District Board of School Directors voted unanimously to name Dr. Nancy Hacker as the district’s interim superintendent. The board also voted unanimously to hire Hazard Young Attea & Associates to conduct a national recruitment effort to find a long-term superintendent.

The current superintendent, Dr. Wagner Marseille, announced his resignation in April and will serve through June 30th. After six years with the Cheltenham School District, he is departing to become the superintendent of Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

Dr. Hacker served as the superintendent of Springfield Township School District from 2012 until her retirement in 2020.

“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Hacker as interim superintendent as we search for our next superintendent. Dr. Hacker brings an enormous amount of experience, expertise and wisdom to this role, and we are grateful to her for her service,” said board president Joel I. Fishbein. “As Springfield’s superintendent, Dr. Hacker served as a friend, mentor and sounding board for Dr. Marseille and the two of them look forward to working together to ensure the smoothest of transitions.”

“I’m quite honored to be following in the wonderful footsteps of Dr. Marseille and I very much look forward to working with him during this transition period,” Dr. Hacker said during the meeting. “I consider myself extraordinarily fortunate to be coming back to work in (Springfield’s) neighboring district which I’ve long admired.”

“HYA [Hazard Young Attea & Associates] has a proven track record of success, and the board was impressed with its plan to conduct a national search to find us the best available candidates,” Fishbein added.
