Cheltenham police deescalate armed person ‘in crisis’ who had self-barricaded in an Elkins Park Square restroom

The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced at approximately 3:30pm on Wednesday, April 17 that officers responded to an incident at Elkins Park Square, 8080 Old York Road.

According to police, an armed individual at that location had self-barricaded in a restroom.

The person appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and in crisis, police said.

Officers successfully deescalated the situation and the individual was transported to a nearby hospital by Cheltenham EMS for medical care.

There is no current danger to the public.
