Cheltenham police bid farewell to four longtime officers

The Cheltenham Township Police Department is bidding farewell to four longtime members: Officers Andrew Lambrechtse and Joseph Pentasuglio and Sergeants Dave Sparango and Brian Griffin.

Each retiring officer was honored during the township’s Board of Commissioner’s meeting on Wednesday, January 21.

The officers “have been the recipients of multiple commendations throughout their careers including awards for Bravery, Heroism, Life Saving and received many heartfelt letters of appreciation from citizens and fellow law enforcement agencies,” the department said in a post.

Sgt. Sparango joined the Department in 1997 and was assigned to the Patrol Division and in 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He served as a member of the Montgomery County SWAT East Region, most recently in the role of negotiator. He also served in the Community Policing Unit during which time he fulfilled multiple specialized roles, including School Resource Officer at Cheltenham HS, D.A.R.E. Officer, Bike Instructor, EVOC Instructor, Crash Investigator, Background Investigator, and Mental Health Liaison Officer.

Sgt. Griffin joined the Department in 1997 and was assigned to the Patrol Division and later to the Community Policing Unit. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2015 and transferred to Detective Unit in 2025. Throughout his career, Sgt. Griffin served as a member of the Montgomery County SWAT East Region, the DUI Task Force, and additionally served as a departmental training instructor for the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, Active Shooter response, Taser, and Defensive Tactics.

Ofc. Pentasuglio joined the Department in 1997 and was assigned to the Patrol Division and also served as a member of the Montgomery County Major Incident Response Team (M.I.R.T.), formerly known as Field Force, and was selected for the Anti-Crime Team Unit in 2005.
Ofc. Lambrechtse joined the Department in 1994. During his career, he served as a member of the Montgomery County SWAT East Region, including his tenure as Team Commander. He led the Department’s Firearms Unit and oversaw Active Shooter Training during the same period. Additionally, he served as a Tactics Instructor, where he developed and implemented comprehensive tactical training curricula for the department.
