Cheltenham officials encourage residents to utilize Emergency Alert Text & Email System

Cheltenham Township officials are encouraging area residents to utilize the Emergency Alert Text and Email System which was first put in place in February 2022.

The system allows Township officials to send emergency alerts to their list of text and email subscribers.  These alerts are sent immediately for situations such as emergency road closures, extreme weather alerts, changes to public works collections due to weather, and heavy police activity.

“After snowstorms in 2021 delayed trash collections, the Township knew it would be useful to have a text alert category for such collection changes,” Lauren Walter, the Township’s Public Information Officer, said. “Now two years after the text system was implemented, we are seeing the type of storms that will make it very beneficial to sign up for these texts and be in the know! Our Public Works team has already made the decision to push trash collection scheduled for Friday, January 19 back to Saturday, January 20 due to the snow forecast – but please sign up and tell your neighbors; we don’t know when a next storm will impact collections this winter!”

Cheltenham Township’s Text Notification System is 888-812-2773.

“We’ve used our ‘Alerts’ category to share quick alerts about road closures, Code Blue reminders, and other timely important notices. Our ‘Events’ category has been used to convey information about pool closures, Township events, and will even be used to text out the next Facilities Public Meeting date because it’s such a high priority for the Township. We haven’t often used the ‘Construction’ category yet, but with upcoming projects, it was a category we wanted at our disposal,” Walter said.

New users wanting to opt-in to alerts should text the below BOLD category keywords to 888-812-2773 and save the number for future text communication.
– Emergency Alerts (weather, police activity, etc.)
