Alex Fishman, a 7th grader at Cedarbrook Middle School (Cheltenham School District), was featured today by NBC10 in a story titled “Montco student with autism wows crowd with talent show performance”.
The talent show, which was held on Tuesday, saw Fishman perform the 1982 single “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake, chosen “because it symbolizes freedom,” NBC10 wrote.
“Thank you so much for giving me the compassion and the love, and the help that you gave me and encouragement,” Fishman said.
His mother told NBC10 that he couldn’t communicate at the age of four.
“They told me he wasn’t going to be able to do something like this,” Mrs. Fishman said “That he wasn’t going to feel anything. The first time they tell you you’re child has autism. There’s this list, can’t do this, can’t do that, won’t do this, won’t do that. I said to myself he’ll do this.”
